Net Worth: $3 Million

Robert, a son of Irwin Smigel and his wife Lucia, is Jewish and attended Jewish summer camps during his childhood. After initially enrolling at Cornell University, he later obtained a degree in political science from New York University in 1983. However, his passion for comedy led him to join The Players Workshop in Chicago, where he studied improvisation under Josephine Forsberg and became part of the All You Can Eat comedy troupe in the ‘80s.

In 1985, Robert gained recognition when Lorne Michaels hired him as a writer for SNL. Despite a challenging start to the show’s 1985-1986 season, he continued to grow his influence and eventually remained on the show until 2013. During his time at SNL, he won two Primetime Emmy Awards in the category of Outstanding Writing in a Variety or Music Program.

His success at SNL brought him opportunities to work with other influential figures in the comedy world, including Conan O’ Brien. Robert served as a writer on over 170 episodes of O’Brien’s show from 1993 to 2000, and created the puppet character, Triumph – the Insult Comic Dog, which further added to his net worth.

In addition to his television work, Robert wrote screenplays for films such as “You Don’t Mess With Zohan” (2000) and voiced characters in the “Hotel Transylvania” series. His dedication to improving the lives of individuals with autism led him and his wife, Michelle Saks Smigel, to become advocates for autism education and fundraising through events such as Night of too Many Stars, for which he received a Primetime Emmy in 2012.
